API Licensing & Commercial Use

The short version
Build things with our data. Don't resell the data itself.
Apps, websites, bots, spreadsheets, dashboards, shop integrations — all welcome, on the plan that matches how you use them. What is never permitted, on any plan, is repackaging our data as a data product: a competing price API, a bulk feed, a dataset for sale.
Two questions decide almost every case: does it make money? (that needs Business) and are you selling the data itself? (that is never allowed).
Which plan do I need?

The one thing that is never allowed
You may not resell, syndicate or redistribute our data as a data product — on any plan, including Business and Enterprise.
Concretely, you may not:
- Operate an API, endpoint or feed that serves our pricing data to third parties
- Sell or give away bulk datasets, database dumps or exports derived from our data
- Run a data brokerage, syndication or reseller service using our data
- Offer our data — free or paid — in any way that substitutes for or competes with the PokemonPriceTracker API
The test is simple: if someone could use your product instead of subscribing to us in order to get the data, that is not permitted.
Large-scale or redistribution use may be possible under a separate data licensing agreement. Contact us if that is what you need — but assume the answer is no unless we have signed something.
Common questions
My site is free for visitors but runs ads. Is that commercial?
Yes. Advertising revenue is revenue. So are affiliate links, sponsorships and donations tied to the product. If your project earns money in any form, it needs a Business plan, even if visitors pay nothing and there is no login.
Adding attribution or a link back to us is genuinely appreciated, but it does not change which plan you need.
Can I store your data in my own database and refresh it daily?
Yes. Caching and storing responses to serve your own application is expected and fine — it is easier on both of us than re-querying constantly. Keep it reasonably fresh so your users aren't seeing stale prices, and keep it inside your own product.
What you may not do is expose that stored copy to third parties as a data source, or hand the stored dataset to anyone else.
My mobile app talks to my own backend, which talks to you. Is my backend a 'competing API'?
No. Serving your own app from your own backend is normal architecture, not redistribution. A private endpoint that exists to power your own product is fine.
It becomes a problem when that endpoint is opened to other people — public docs, third-party API keys, partners querying it, or anyone using it as a data source rather than using your product.
Can I show individual sold listings, or only aggregate prices?
Individual sold-listing detail is available on Business plans, and you may display it inside your product. Aggregate prices — medians, ranges, trends, your own derived numbers — can be displayed on any plan appropriate to your use.
Either way, display is permitted; bulk export to third parties is not.
Can I show numbers I calculated from your data?
Yes. Medians, averages, indices, ROI estimates, charts and other derived figures are yours to display, on the plan matching your use. Derived output does not escape the resale rule, though: a "derived" feed that is really our dataset in a thin disguise is still redistribution.
Where does your data come from? Are you an official partner of any marketplace?
We publish what our data covers — TCGplayer market prices, graded sales, Cardmarket EUR prices, population data — but we don't disclose how it is collected, or the infrastructure behind it, and we don't answer questions about sourcing arrangements. We claim no official partnership or endorsement: we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, TCGplayer, eBay, PSA, or any other third party.
You are responsible for your own compliance obligations in your own jurisdiction and for how you use what we provide.
Do you indemnify me against third-party data-rights claims?
No. We do not provide indemnification, and we make no warranty that the data is fit for any particular purpose. The Service is provided "as is".
Prices are estimates derived from public market activity. They can be wrong, stale, or missing, and they are not appraisals, valuations or financial advice. Do not use them as the sole basis for a purchase, sale, insurance or investment decision.
Is there a contract to sign?
For Free, API and Business plans, our Terms of Service are the agreement — subscribing accepts them, and no separate signature is needed. Section 6 is the authoritative wording on everything on this page.
Bespoke agreements, redistribution rights, or procurement paperwork are handled case by case at the Enterprise level.
Do you guarantee uptime or accuracy?
No. We work hard on both, and pricing data is updated daily, but we do not offer an uptime SLA or an accuracy guarantee on standard plans, and we may change or discontinue endpoints. Build with retries and sensible fallbacks.
What happens if I get this wrong?
Usually a conversation. If we see use that doesn't match your plan we'll normally reach out and ask you to upgrade. Clear resale or competing-API use, or ignoring us, can result in suspension or termination without refund.
If you're unsure whether your project fits, ask before you build. We would much rather answer up front than turn something off later.
